About our Kits:
Altoona Model Works Goal is to build Quality Kits. Engineered structures and building’s will add realism to any scene. We are new to the hobby, but our pedigree of Model Making goes back over 50 years. For the past 20 of those 50 years model railroading has been an ever-growing interest.
Our product line offers you both proto-types and caricatures. We specialize from scale structures to structures to fit in a tighter foot-print. Our models are museum quality and will be created in American O, S, and HO scales.
The materials used are of best quality. For example we do not use cardboard in final assembly. You will find detail products from Grandt Line and Tichy to keep assembly fast. From time to time you even find our very own specialty crafted cast details. For extra strength some of our kits requires an inner structure. We use 1/8 inch slot and tab Masonite for easy build and super strong construction. NO WARP WALLS!! Also all windows and door openings are laser cut. NO paper templates and NO time consuming or difficult cutting required. All models include a removable base cut from MDF board using laser or CNC machine.
Materials used in our Wood kits are Baltic Birch Plywood or basswood. Most materials are from Northeastern Scale Lumber and laser cut and keyed for your modeling ease. Our roof shingles are made from a stick and peal material for correct shingle simulation.
All details shown on kits are included; poles, chimney, etc. With our newly installed spin molding equipment will be offering you our new line of detail products. All said you will receive a quality kit complete from roof to foundation made here at Altoona Model Works.
Our kits may look complex to build, but if you follow the manual included you find them easy to assemble. If you purchased one of our first run kits you may found my writing a little poor, my grammar has been revised. If you are a first time modeler or a pro you may find our newly updated manuals in the MODELERS HELP LINK and download the manual of your choice in PDF. This and other helpful links will be added very soon.
